A term in reference to the five girls who were kidnapped in 1970 on Rougetsu Island, part of the background plot to Fatal Frame IV. These girls were taken by You Haibara to participate as Kanade, and perform a secret version of the Rougetsu Kagura. They were all patients suffering from Getsuyuu Syndrome.
In the game, the kidnapped girls are referred to as Spirited Aways. Dr. Shoji Katagiri specifically refers to the girls as such when he goes to report to the police the girls have disappeared from their beds. Technically, spirited aways are people who disappear and are considered to be kidnapped by spirits, while the kidnapped girls were kidnapped by a living person.
When the ceremony failed the girls collapsed, losing all their memories of what had happened to them. For the next two weeks they were kept underground in the Moonbeam Cave, where Shigeto Haibara observed the effects of moonlight upon their condition. They were discovered and returned to their families by Choushiro Kirishima, a detective who was working on their case.
Ten years later, two of the girls, Tomoe and Marie suddenly collapsed and died under mysterious circumstances, their faces twisted in horrific expressions, similar to the circumstances of the mysterious deaths of the other islanders eight years before. Searching for clues to their past, and hoping to evade a similar fate, Misaki and Madoka traveled to Rougetsu Island in search of answers. They were soon followed by Ruka Minazuki and Choushiro Kirishima, now retired from the police force, who was sent by Ruka's mother Sayaka Minazuki to bring her daughter back.

- Ruka, Misaki, and Madoka were hospitalized at Rougetsu Hall, while Tomoe and Marie were treated as outpatients.
- Ruka is the only known kidnapped girl to survive by the end of Fatal Frame IV. Madoka, Tomoe and Marie die, and Misaki's fate is unknown.
