Zenbei Kagomori is the inventor of Herbal Medicine. He is mentioned in a small insert included with the KTSpot Herbal Medicine and Tin Badge merchandise. According to the insert, Zenbei invented herbal medicine (manyogan) in August of Genbun 2 (1737), when a plague was sweeping through his village. Zenbei also fell ill, but during his sickness his deceased wife appeared at his bedside and told him how to create a new kind of medicine using local poisonous plants. Zenbei followed her instructions, and the medicine he created saved his village. He went on to found a business called Kagomorido, and their medicine was widely sold by pedlars throughout Japan.
