Unnamed in the movie, Kusanagi photo studio is where Mary and Susumu Kusanagi live.
A Curse Affecting Only Girls
In the novel, it is called Kusakabe Photo Studio, in accordance with Susumu's original surname. It was a normal studio run by Kazumi's late husband, but its fortunes waned with the advent of digital photography, and eventually it went out of business. Now Kazumi and Susumu live there together, and the shop section is shuttered and unused.
Fatal Frame: The Movie
As in the novel, the studio is now only used as a residence for Kazumi and her son, but in the past it was the site of the ghost marriage ritual. Young girls who were in love but forbidden from being together would visit the studio to have their photographs taken with a special camera. In the movie, a flashback shows an unidentified man holding Susumu's camera and photographing two girls wearing kimono. The pictures are all enshrined in the studio, and several old cameras are on display. Mary grew up surrounded by the photographs of the dead girls, which led her to become interested in the legends of a curse at the school.
Once the curse is lifted, she places the picture of Maya Tsukimori on the wall with the others.
