Broken Neck Woman is a ghost in Fatal Frame II. In Deep Crimson Butterfly and Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake she is known as Broken-Necked Woman. She committed suicide by jumping from the Heaven Bridge in order to avoid the Darkness during the Repentance. Although she suffers the pain of her broken neck, she does not clearly understand what has happened to her, hence her vacant smile.[1]
Encounters
Fatal Frame II / Deep Crimson Butterfly
Broken Neck Woman makes her first appearance on the bridge that connects the Twin Houses. She also appears in both the Kiryu and Tachibana houses. Her last appearance takes place at Minakami Cemetery, where she emerges at the Tsuchihara grave after Mio takes a picture of it.
Fatal Frame II Remake
In the remade version of Fatal Frame II, Broken Neck Woman is no longer encountered at the cemetery in Chapter 8, as the Tsuchihara Family Crest has been moved to a new location. However, she is a frequent random encounter in the later chapters of the game, especially in Kiryu House.

Misc. Info
- One of the family crests cannot be obtained until she is defeated. Because of her association with the Tsuchihara grave, fans have speculated that she might have been a member of the Tsuchihara Family.
- Broken Neck Woman wears her kimono the 'dead' way, right over left. In Japan, this is only done for burial when one is deceased. Along with Sae Kurosawa, she is one of the few ghosts in the village to wear it this way.
