Yoshitatsu Kiryu was part of the Kiryu Family, a branch of the Kurosawa Family. As a doll maker he showed great technical skill and an interest in Western mechanics. He used his skills to create automated passageways, including the two linking his own house with that of the Tachibana House and the one leading to the Hellish Abyss. He used mechanical dolls to this end.
When it was time to perform the Crimson Sacrifice Ritual, he had the misfortune of being the father of the only set of twins in Minakami Village. It was because of this that his daughters, Azami and Akane, had to perform the ritual at an unusually young age. After Azami was gone, Akane fell into a deep depression. Hoping to alleviate her grief, Yoshitatsu built a life-sized doll of Azami. Akane became very close to the doll, taking it anywhere she went and constantly whispering things in its ear.
Yoshitatsu learned too late that the doll had become possessed by an evil spirit, when he discovered it walking under its own power. He was warned by the real spirit of Azami to destroy the doll by throwing it into the Abyss. He made plans to kill the doll by hanging it, but before he could do so, the doll and Akane disabled the passages that led to the Abyss, and then strangled him to death. After Yoshitatsu was dead, the doll eventually stole Akane's soul.

Misc. Info
- Yoshitatsu Kiryu was one of the few inhabitants of Minakami Village to oppose the Crimson Sacrifice Ritual, as can be seen in his diaries: "If we didn't have this ritual, no one would have to feel that kind of pain..." His words of apology and repentance suggest that before his spirit was corrupted by the Darkness, he was a compassionate man and a good father.
- Yoshitatsu's attacks involve the dolls he can manipulate; he does not attack Mio himself until his health is low.
