Koji Ogata was an editor at Junsei Takamine's publishing house. He was also the editor of a horror magazine.[1] In late August 1986, he was asked to research a book by a folklorist named Ryozo Munakata detailing the rituals of Himuro Mansion. In September 1986 he accompanied Junsei Takamine and his assistant, Tomoe Hirasaka, to Himuro Mansion to research Takamine's latest book and gather material for his own magazine.[2] Along with the others, he asked about Himuro Mansion at a nearby village and was uneasy when local people proved evasive about it. Upon entering the mansion, his first reaction is, "what a wreck!"

Koji with the Rope Curse

Koji glimpsed a woman in a white kimono during his first day at Himuro Mansion. After this, his picture was taken by Hirasaka. As a result of Kirie's curse, the figure in the picture showed rope marks. Koji became obsessive about the rope marks on his body. He may have lost his mind and was separated from Takamine and Hirasaka. He also lost the key to the second floor.

While searching for Junsei and Tomoe, Kirie caught up with him. Ogata attempted to hide in a closet near the Kimono Room, but Kirie found him and inflicted her curse upon him. Although his death happens off-screen, it is clear that Kirie severed his limbs. His remains were later discovered by Takamine and Hirasaka.
