Misc. Info
- The Japanese name for this location, (逢魔が淵 oumagafuchi; "'Demon Tryst Pool' or 'Twilight Pool'") shares its first two characters with (逢魔時 oumagatoki; "'twilight' or 'witching hour'"), evoking the old Japanese belief that dusk was an unlucky time, when people were more likely to meet disaster or encounter supernatural beings. It also echoes the Calamity, which is written 禍刻 and pronounced magatoki. The same wordplay recurs in Fatal Frame V, in which (大禍刻 oomagatoki; "time of great calamity") refers to the sunset hour when Mount Hikami comes into its own.
- In English translations, four different location names are translated as 'Abyss', though most have different names in Japanese. In addition to the Abyss in Himuro Mansion, there are the Hellish Abyss in Minakami Village, the Abyss (at the bottom of the Last Passage) and Abyss of the Horizon in the Manor of Sleep.
