Mikoto Munakata is a minor character in Fatal Frame. She is the only child of famous folklorist Ryozo Munakata and his wife Yae Munakata. She mysteriously disappeared while playing Demon Tag with her friends.
Past

When Mikoto was six years old, she and her parents moved into Himuro Mansion. While they were living there, Mikoto turned seven, and became caught up in the mansion's curse.[1] By June 10th, Mikoto had made friends with several children from the nearby area, and all of them would play together in the mansion.[2] During this time, Mikoto also met a girl in white, who gave her a strange camera. Mikoto showed it to her father, who found nothing unusual about it.[3] Over the next few days, Yae used the camera to take dozens of photos, including one photo (left) that showed Mikoto with the girl in the white kimono, and another that showed a shadowy figure standing in the background.
Mikoto begged to have the camera back, but Yae was becoming worried about its power, and wanted to protect Mikoto from what it might reveal.[4] However, Mikoto did eventually manage to get the camera back, and had it with her while she played Demon Tag with her friends.[5] During the game, the other three children were spirited away by Long Arms.
Mikoto fled, and was able to escape the mansion with the help of the camera.[1] She was found a few days later, wandering in the woods, with no memories of what had happened to her. While she was missing, Yae had committed suicide and Ryozo had disappeared. Mikoto was taken in by Mr. Hinasaki, a friend of her father, who eventually adopted her.[6]
Many years later, Mikoto had a daughter named Miyuki and passed the camera on to her. The hairclip that Mikoto wore as a child was passed down to her granddaughter Miku, and Miku's story after she enters Himuro Mansion echoes Mikoto's as she meets White Kimono, uses the Camera to protect herself, and gets drawn into the endless game of Demon Tag.[7]
Misc Info
- One of Mikoto's friends, the ghost boy in the clock, had a crush on Mikoto, but never had a chance to tell her his feelings.[8]
- The developers planned to include a cutscene showing Mikoto's escape from the mansion into the forest, but Night 2 was already very long, and ultimately her story was conveyed through newspaper clippings.[7]
