Chapter 1: The Lost Village (FF2R)

Mio and Mayu Amakura, identical twins, have arrived on the outskirts of Minakami Village after following a Crimson Butterfly through the Forest. After entering the first house they come to, Mayu has flashbacks to the life of Miyako Sudo, a woman who also became trapped in the village, and her unfortunate demise inside Osaka House.
During this introduction chapter, the player learns how to operate the controls of the Camera Obscura, and gets an introductory tutorial of the game.

- Unlike the original game, it is possible to explore several areas of the village before entering Osaka House, including Eikado Temple, part of the Kiryu House, and the grounds of Kureha Shrine. There are no ghosts or items to collect at this stage of the game, and Mio has no flashlight to see by. While Mio is exploring, Mayu will wait at the doorway to Osaka House.
