After the final battle against Kirie, Miku is unable to defeat her with the Camera, which malfunctions and shatters. As Kirie is about to advance for the kill, White Kimono appears, and points out the last piece of the Holy Mirror among the broken pieces of the Camera. Miku is able to put the mirror back together and replace it in its proper spot at the altar in front of the Hell Gate.
When she is reflected in the mirror, Kirie is purified of the Malice, and Mafuyu is freed. Miku runs over to him, relieved that he is unharmed. White Kimono appears again and reminds Kirie of her duty to keep the Hell Gate from opening. Kirie and White Kimono fuse as Kirie walks over to the gate. Her hands begin to glow as she forces it closed. After that, she summons the ropes up connected to the large pillars on either side to bind around her wrists. They tighten and begin to hold her up as she keeps the door closed. Kirie tells them to leave while she deals with the gate. Mafuyu asks what will become of her, and she claims she has to stop the Calamity, and tells him not to worry about her.
Another earthquake hits, and the cavern begins to collapse. Miku urges Mafuyu to hurry, but he refuses, believing he can help Kirie. He tells Miku to go on alone, and the screen goes black as the ceiling caves in. In voiceover, Mafuyu explains that he had been able to hear Kirie screaming for help as she guided him through the mansion. He speaks of the turmoil she suffered while caught between her duty as the Rope Shrine Maiden and of her wish to be with the one she loved, and how this resulted in the failure of the Strangling Ritual and the Calamity. She was touched by the Malice, and filled with the wish to make others suffer as she had. He goes on to say that she's now about to fulfil her duty and keep the doors closed for the rest of eternity, but that means her soul has to stay there alone in endless pain. Mafuyu wishes to remain by her side, to help her bear her burden without losing hope.
Miku awakes to find herself outside the mansion alone. She calls out for Mafuyu, but he is not there. After a moment, she sees all the souls now free of the mansion's curse and going back to where they belong, floating into the sky. Again in voiceover, Mafuyu explains that he now understands it was his destiny to be drawn to the mansion. He thanks Miku for everything she has done. As the scene draws to a close, Miku's voice says, "Ever since that day, I've stopped seeing things other people don't see."
