Where Ghost Marriages take place, tales of children of the dead are often found.
They are known as "Shadowborn", or "Children of the Underworld," and are feared by the people.
"The Shadowborn"
Once, a man beloved by a girl living in a small village went missing in the mountains.
Every day, the girl went to the mountain shrine to pray for his return, but years went by, and the man never came back.
After ten years, the girl had lost her mind. She went on living and talking to a man who wasn't there.
One day, the villagers noticed that she was with child.
She said that the man who had gone missing was the father.
Ignoring the talk in the village about the identity of the father, she gave birth alone.
The baby girl that was born had the missing man's eyes.
As for the man, he was an outsider who had stumbled upon the village. It later transpired he was killed by the villagers ten years prior.
When the child learned how to speak, she asked the villagers,
"Why did you kill my father?"

「冥婚」「幽婚」と関連して各地に
伝わる話に、死者の子供の話がある。
これらは「黄泉子」「夜泉子」などと
呼ばれ、人々に恐れられている。
『夜泉子』
あるとき、里に住んでいた娘と恋仲だった
男が山で行方知れずとなった。
娘は毎日のように山のお社に通い、男が
戻るように願をかけたが、何年待っても
男が戻ることは無かった。
十年が過ぎたころ、娘は正気をなくし、
いないはずの男に話かけ、暮らすように
なっていた。
ある日、里の者が娘が身篭っていることに
気づいた。
娘に聞くと、行方知れずの男との間に
できた子だという。
別の男の子かと噂する里の者をよそに、
娘はひとり、出産した。
生まれた子は、行方知れずの男と同じ髪、
同じ目の女の子だったという。
男は迷い込んだ異人であり、里の者に
十年前に殺されていた。
娘が言葉を覚えた頃。娘は里の者に
こう言った。
なぜ、父を殺した、と。
