The reliquaries protect the maidens from the Black Water.
They are filled with the Black Water, and a maiden is shut inside.
The maiden becomes a Pillar, protecting the Pure Water.
The reliquaries prevent the Pillar from melting away, keeping her within the water.
They must not be opened before the Pillar has crumbled.
The only one who can open the reliquary is the one inside.
