Twin law

In the game Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly, Seijiro Makabe makes a reference to a "recent"[1] law issued on December 13, 1874.
The law, which was intended to settle inheritance disputes, states that the firstborn twin is considered the eldest, while the second born twin is considered the younger. Before this law was established, it was up to the local governments of each village to decide which twin was the elder.
In Minakami Village, it was believed that the elder twin was stronger, and therefore allowed the younger twin to be born first.[2] When Seijiro asks, Ryokan Kurosawa tells him that the villagers continue to follow the old ways, and consider the firstborn twin the younger.[1]
