Fifth and final chapter of Fatal Frame.

After nearly being caught by the woman again, Miku wakes up in the Koto Room. In the room, she finds a music sheet and plays it on the koto nearby; the result of this is the door up to the attic. While exploring the attic, she looks through two peepholes in the attic: one showed a room where a spirit of a woman is seen crying, saying "I don't want to die." while the other showed the hallway of the 2nd floor where a face glares at her; Miku is then attacked by the ghost but she is able to seal the spirit into the camera.

After going through the Buddha Room on top of the beams, Miku goes into a room with a large cell. There, she notices a little girl in the cell, her arms tied with ropes, urging Miku to go inside the cell. Inside the cell, Miku looks through a diary, figuring out the identity of the woman and the final days before her death: the woman, Kirie, met a man and fell in love with him days before the ritual. Miku then goes to the spot where the girl was and obtains another piece of the mirror and a hairpin; after receiving the items, Miku then gets a vision of Kirie and her lover meeting in the Cherry Atrium.

As Miku is leaving the room, Kirie comes out of the mirror in the room, intending to kill Miku. Miku manages to escape the vengeful spirit fortunately. Before heading to the Moon Shrine, Miku finds out what happened to the man and Kirie: The head priests grew worried about Kirie's meeting of the man and soon murdered the man when the Himuro Family Master orders him disposed of. The priests told Kirie the man went back home but Kirie found out what happened and feels guilty for the man's death.

Miku heads down to the well beneath the shrine and inserts the hairpin in the slot near the mummy, unlocking the door. As she heads to the Rope Altar she is encountered by two spirits and manages driving them off. After reachign the altar, Miku has a vision of the ritual Kirie participated in; the young woman was tied with ropes and was being pulled apart with ropes with the priests and the head master turning the knobs, killing her. After the vision, Miku is then attacked by a a former maiden; she manages to drive the woman off.

Miku soon advances to the path beyond, toward the Hell Gate. After entering the room, Miku has a vision and finds out the fate of everyone in the mansion: Because of Kirie's guilt and her new joy for life, the ritual failed and the disaster that killed the most of residents of Himuro Mansion happened. As she examines the hole where to place the holy mirror, Miku then has another vision, this time showing Mafuyu being captured and absorbed by Kirie, who then attacks Miku. After managing to push the spirit back, the camera explodes, leaving her with no protection against Kirie. As Kirie comes closer and closer to Miku, the little girl, who is the benevolent side of Kirie, shows Miku that within the scattered parts of the camera is another piece of the mirror; the final piece to the mirror. Miku manages to grab the piece and places the mirror pieces, now the newly formed Holy Mirror, into the hole and purifies Kirie back into her original self, before the ritual. Mafuyu is released from Kirie's grip and Miku reunites with him, grateful he is well.

The little girl then appears at Kirie, telling her "Don't forget your duty." Kirie fuses with the little girl and heads towards the gate, tying herself with ropes in front of the gate as the room starts to rumble. Kirie urges the two to leave the mansion, saying she has to stay to make sure the gate doesn't open ever again. Miku urges Mafuyu to come with her but Mafuyu insists on staying with her, making sure she won't be lonely ever again. Suddenly, Miku blacks out.

Miku then wakes up in front of Himuro Mansion, orbs of light floating up into the air, implying that the vengeful spirits of the mansion are now passing on, free of their suffering. She then states after the incident at the mansion, her Sixth Sense disappears.
