Woman in Dark (also known as "Denizen of the Dark" and "Succumbed Woman") was one of the inhabitants of Minakami Village consumed by the Malice of the Repentance. According to her Spirit List entry, she roams the village asking for help.
Encounters
In the original Fatal Frame II and Deep Crimson Butterfly, Woman in Dark is usually encountered as a random ghost around the village. Her only scripted appearance is in Chapter 7, outside the Doll Room in Kiryu House while Mio doesn't have the Camera Obscura. It is possible to go back after retrieving the camera and fight her.
In Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, she has a scripted appearance in Chapter 2 on Kiryu-Tachibana Path, as well as an increased number of random encounters in later chapters.

Misc Info
- Due to her almost total lack of hair in the original Fatal Frame II, she is sometimes mistaken for the Man in Dark ghost, but can be distinguished because of the kimono she wears.
- In Deep Crimson Butterfly and the Fatal Frame II Remake, she has more hair and a small ponytail, "so her silhouette would still clearly read as female."[1]
