The Pole Bearer (alternatively called Pole-Wielding Villager in Fatal Frame: Deep Crimson Butterfly) is an inhabitant of Minakami Village who was killed in The Repentance. He and the other villagers continue to search for the twins Yae and Sae Kurosawa, who had run away, to bring them back to perform their Crimson Sacrifice Ritual. The Pole Bearer carries a pole, which he uses to try to incapacitate and recapture Mio and Mayu Amakura, believing them to be the Kurosawa twins.
