Filters are a gameplay element introduced in Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. They are upgrades to the Camera Obscura, each having their own unique functions in combat and exploration, as well as properties. Special Ability
Restores a large amount of Willpower when shooting photos.

Suppressing Special Shot
Pushes back photographed wraiths.[1] Consumes 40% of available Willpower but doesn't use film.

Paraceptual Filter

A filter for viewing spirits.

  • Charging: Slow
  • Willpower Recovery: Low

Special Ability
Allows you to see spirits through walls. (Unlocked through upgrades.)

Temporarily blinds photographed wraiths. Consumes 75% Willpower but doesn't use film. Removed once photographed again.

Vanishing Traces
Upon spotting a figure recreating actions from the past, Vanishing Traces will appear. Search for these Vanishing Traces using the Paraceptual Filter to uncover the path this shade once followed.

Exposure Filter

A filter for viewing that which has begun to vanish.

  • Power: Low
  • Charging: Fast
  • Willpower Recovery: Low

Special Ability
Makes it easier to damage Aggravated wraiths. (Unlocked through upgrades.)

Slowing Special Shot
Temporarily slows photographed wraiths. Consumes 75% Willpower but doesn't use film. Removed once photographed again.

Phantom Exposé
After obtaining a Photo Record, observe the location in the photo through the Exposure Filter and use Phantom Exposé to restore vanished things. This also allows you to photograph invisible revenants, which earns you items.
