The Twin's Doll, also called the Manikin in Fatal Frame II Remake, is a hostile ghost in Fatal Frame II.
Background
The doll was originally created by Yoshitatsu Kiryu, a doll-maker, for his daughter Akane.
It was a likeness of Akane's twin, Azami, who had died as a Crimson Sacrifice. After performing the Crimson Sacrifice Ritual successfully, Akane became overcome with guilt and sadness at the loss of her sister. Her father decided to make a life-size doll of Azami to comfort his daughter.
The doll was so life-like that Akane treated it as though it were really her sister, and spent all her time talking to it. Because of this, it became possessed by an evil spirit and began to control her.

When Yoshitatsu discovered the doll walking by itself, he realized it was possessed and began searching for a way to destroy it. The real Azami's spirit told him to throw it into the Abyss,[1] and urged Akane to kill it.[2] However, Akane hid the doll's arms and head in boxes around the house so that her father could not find them, and broke the doll mechanism opening the passage to the Hellish Abyss.[3] Eventually, under the doll's influence, Akane killed her father.[4]
Crimson Butterfly Remake
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake further develops the story of the Kiryu family. In one new document, a maidservant of the household describes the doll's uncanny behaviour.[5] Akane Kiryu's side story shows how the doll influenced Akane to kill her father, and how, after his death, she withdrew to the Twins' Room, unable to perceive the real Azami watching over her.
After removing the safety mechanism from the Camera Obscura, Mio gains the new ability to exorcise beings from hell itself,[6] which allows her to drive out the evil spirit possessing the doll for good.
Battle
In Fatal Frame II, Akane and the Twin's Doll always attack together, and the doll is impervious to the exorcising effect of the Camera Obscura. Unlike the real twin, the doll's mouth is hidden as it reaches up to attack, and if the player backs away, it will stumble and collapse rather than continuing to advance.
In Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, the doll can be defeated with the Camera Obscura. During battles with both Akane Kiryu and the doll, Akane can resurrect the doll (and sometimes more than one) if it is defeated first.

Misc. Info
- Some sources, such as the English spirit list and Japanese official guidebook, erroneously state that the doll is possessed by Azami's spirit. This mistake does not occur in the Japanese version of the spirit list.
- In the Fatal Frame II remake, the doll will sometimes laugh madly during battle, just like Sae.
