Naoya was Yoshino Takigawa's fiancé. While Naoya was travelling with Yoshino and her family in August 1988, their plane crashed, killing everyone on board except for Yoshino. Naoya was among the deceased and, for the four days before she was rescued, Yoshino was trapped with his body beside her, as well as those of her family members. All Yoshino had left of Naoya was a photograph she held on to. Then, while she was at the hospital, Naoya began to appear in Yoshino's dreams. She followed him and her family into the Manor of Sleep.
