Camera Obscura (FF3)
Fourth Camera Obscura introduced in the Fatal Frame Series. Unlike previous cameras that were introduced, this camera is broken. However, while it does not work in the real world, it is able to work within the dream world and produce film of photographs taken while Rei and the others were sleeping.
History of the Camera
The camera was discovered in the real-world ruins of the Kuze Shrine by Kei Amakura, who was investigating the Manor of Sleep urban legend. It is not known how the camera came to be there; Akito Kashiwagi, a folklorist visiting the Manor when it was still functioning, was said to have had a camera, but it is not known whether this was the Camera Obscura or not.
After finding the camera, Kei took it home with him, but his niece Mio became deeply distressed when she saw it, and so Kei sent it to his friend and fellow folklorist Yuu Asou, in the hope that Yuu would be able to tell him something about it. Yuu died before he could write back, and later, his fiancée Rei Kurosawa found the camera in his room.

Upgrading and Equipment
Upgrading the camera's basic capabilities and lenses costs points, but no longer requires Spirit Orbs. All three cameras have the same basic upgradable capabilities:
- Max Value - Displays the Maximum Amount you can charge your Spirit Power. Can be upgraded up to five times.
- Range - Displays the range within which you can catch ghosts. Can be upgraded up to three times.
- Sensitivity - Displays Spirit Power recharge rate, and camera range, depending on charge. Can be upgraded up to five times.
Rei and Kei's cameras offer the option to upgrade all lenses up to three times, while Miku's camera has no special lenses. In addition, Miku and Rei both have special abilities associated with their cameras, each of which can be upgraded up to three times.
- "Double" - allows Miku to charge twice as much Spirit Power while aiming at a ghost. Upgrading this ability means that charge will be quicker.
- "The Sacred Stone" - allows Miku to slow ghosts down. This ability charges whenever Miku or the ghost she is fighting lose health. Upgrading it increases the duration of the effect.
- "Flash" - allows Rei to use the camera's flash to briefly stun ghosts. Upgrading this ability increases the number of times Rei can use it per chapter, with a maximum of 16.

Capture Circles
During battles, the capture circle accumulates more power the longer it is centred on an attacking ghost, increasing the damage done when the shot is taken. Upgrading the camera can increase the number of charge points, allowing greater damage, and widen the circle, making it easier to aim.
Rei's Camera
Rei's camera has a large capture circle when fully upgraded, with a total of ten charge points.
Kei's Camera
Kei's camera has the smallest capture circle, with only two charge points even at its highest upgrade level. This allows for rapid successive shots, chipping away at a spirit's health rather than dealing large amounts of damage with one shot.
Miku's Camera
As well as having a large capture circle, the "Double" special ability means that Miku's camera can sustain a much higher charge level than either Rei's or Kei's, charging two full circles instead of one. This gives her camera the potential to deal massive damage.
Gameplay Tips
- During battles, using Rei's "Flash" special ability will cause a shutter chance, which can be useful when battling multiple enemies.
- The Flash and Double abilities are fully replenished at the start of every chapter, and can be restored by waking from the dream.
Misc Info
- This camera is broken in the real world, but works in the dream world.
- Different characters 'discover' the camera in different parts of the mansion.
- This camera also doubles as a save point in the real world.
