Unfathomable Forest

The Unfathomable Forest (Shirazu no Mori) is a location in the central area of Mount Hikami in Fatal Frame V. The forest's name comes from a saying that says people who visit forget things as they walk, even where they're supposed to be going. It is a famous suicide spot, and people often sneak inside to end their lives there, despite the large fence designed to keep them out. There are also rumours of a murderer hiding inside. The shrine path that runs through it was fixed up during the tourism era, but after a huge landslide parts of it collapsed, or turned into marshland. A cable car station is built next to the forest, connecting it to the rest of the mountain.
The Unfathomable Forest is the site where the majority of suicides on the mountain take place, and as such many items belonging to the dead are discovered there. It also contains the Hanging Tree, a tree well known for having many people commit suicide by hanging themselves from it, ropes still hanging from its branches. The Shrine of Dolls can be found in the central area, with its many dolls. Keiji Watarai's lost house appears from time to time, somewhere on the edge of the forest, and the Hall of Fire can occasionally be found standing on its former site in Casket Marsh.
