Shino Kururugi is a ghost featured in Fatal Frame V. She wears a red kimono and hangs in midair, suspended from a rope around her neck. She was the sister of Kyozo Kururugi. Kyozo murdered a man, supposedly to protect Shino, but Shino loved the man and was heartbroken. She went to Mount Hikami and killed herself at the Hanging Tree, watched by a shrine maiden. After death, she was tainted by the overflow of black water from the Shadowspring and her spirit returned, corrupted, killing others who ventured into the mountain. She was responsible for the death of Tomoki Harakawa, dragging him down from the roof as he considered suicide with a noose around his neck. During the game, she almost influenced Rui Kagamiya into doing the same thing.
