The Shrine of Dolls Priest was a Shinto priest[1] and the author of four notes in Fatal Frame V. During the tourist revival of Mt. Hikami, he took over running the Shrine of Dolls, researching the history of the shrine and the Womb Cavern beneath, and resurrecting some of the old rituals. While he was living there, he noticed that dolls were being moved in the night, and sensed the presence of children playing in the shrine; sometimes, he dreamed he was playing with them, and that his own late daughter was one of the group. Far from being afraid of these ghostly manifestations, he wished the dreams could go on longer, and wondered what might happen if he followed the children into the mist.
He also dreamed of a white-haired girl with a penetrating gaze who seemed to know what he was thinking. In one dream he saw a glimpse of the past, in which the girl was interred in a reliquary under the shrine.
After a landslide brought about the end of the attempted tourist revival, the Shrine of Dolls was abandoned once more, and the man's ultimate fate is unknown.
