| Japanese | 孤独ノ箱 (こどくのはこ) | |
| Character | Ren Hojo | |
| How to obtain | Choose Ose Kurosawa at the House of Joining and photograph her | |
| Game | Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water | |
When Ren takes a photograph of Ose, she accepts that he has come to break their union rather than join her in death. She recalls the moment Asou took her photograph, claiming a small part of her soul, and how happy she was in spite of the pain. She says she will return to the darkness alone, but requests that he take one final picture of her before she goes. She adopts her bridal pose from the original photo, and when Ren looks at her through the viewfinder, she appears as she did then, untouched by the black water. He takes the photograph as she asked, and she vanishes, leaving him with another photo of her.
Misc. Info
- The Japanese title of this ending (孤独ノ箱, lonely box) is a reference to Keiji Watarai's quote:
- "An old friend of mine used to call cameras "lonely boxes." I'm not sure if he meant that the subject appears trapped alone in this dark box when viewed through the viewfinder, or that looking through the viewfinder meant peering out through the dark, all alone."
- ―Keiji Watarai Folklorist's Notes 3
