Shadowborn (夜泉子, yomiko) is a term first mentioned in Fatal Frame V, referring to children born between a living woman and a dead man. Children born from this union are said to be half dead from birth and have extraordinarily strong sixth senses, making them feared - and sometimes revered - by those around them.[1] Bearing the child of the dead takes a huge toll on the mother and drastically reduces their lifespan.[2][3]
The only named shadowborn in the series is Miu Hinasaki, though another unnamed example is recorded in a local legend.
Misc. Info
- The word is written in general folklore as 黄泉子, meaning "child of the underworld", but in the Mount Hikami area it is written 夜泉子 ("child of black water").
