The Forbidden Flame (忌火, imibi) in Fatal Frame V is the name of the sacred fire maintained by the Flamekeepers on Mount Hikami. It was believed to defend against the black water. The source of the fire was kept in the Hall of Fire and priests watched over it at all times, ensuring it would never go out.[1][2] It was used to make the Purifying Embers that can cleanse characters who have become tainted.[3]
All of the lanterns at the Shrine of the Ephemeral were kindled from the Forbidden Flame, and purified the water as it flowed down the mountain.[4]
