Boat of Passage
Boat of Passage (彼岸舟, Higanbune) is a term that appears in Fatal Frame V. It refers to the boat that is used to ferry shrine maidens from the Shrine of the Ephemeral to the Shrine on the Water. Only maidens who have performed enough Glancing for their hearts to overflow with emotions, and are therefore ready to make the journey to be sunk, are permitted to ride upon it. There is no boatman to steer the boat; instead, when a suitable maiden boards the vessel it will automatically direct itself to the shrine. Those unqualified to ride it will never reach the Shrine on the Water, instead becoming lost in the fog, the boat returning empty. In game, Yuri Kozukata uses the boat to reach the Shrine on the Water to search for Hisoka Kurosawa.
