Mount Kagiroi is a mountain near Mount Hikami in Fatal Frame V.[1] In the past, both mountains shared the same religious beliefs, and suitable candidates were sent to Mount Hikami to become sacrifices. Mount Kagiroi was unusual in that it used children as shrine maidens, as it was believed that a child belonged to the gods until the age of seven.
Dr. Kunihiko Asou grew up near Mount Kagiroi, and befriended one of the mountain's young shrine maidens, Shiragiku.[2] Ren Hojo also spent a summer there as a child.[3]
Three locations on Mount Kagiroi are seen during the game: the small shrine where Shiragiku and Kunihiko Asou played, a river lined with cherry trees, and a forest clearing where Shiragiku was placed into a Casket.[4] They are only shown in cutscenes and cannot be freely explored during normal gameplay.
Misc. Info
- The mountain's name means 'heat haze'.
- The forest clearing location where Shiragiku's ceremony takes place is actually an edited version of Misono Hill from Fatal Frame: Deep Crimson Butterfly. A video exploring this area can be seen here.
