The Mikomori Region is the area around Mount Hikami in Fatal Frame V. The religious practices and beliefs of Mount Hikami spread throughout the region in a fragmentary way. Young women might be summoned to the mountain to serve as maidens, and inhabitants who wished to die a proper death would make a pilgrimage there. In some places, water from the mountain was used on special occasions. Dr. Kunihiko Asou travelled all over the area taking postmortem photographs.
Named Locations in the Mikomori Region
Mount Kagiroi
A mountain where young girls were used as shrine maidens. Particularly strong shrine maidens would be placed in reliquaries and sent to Mount Hikami to become Pillars. Mount Kagiroi is also home to a branch of the Asou Family.
Narutaki (鳴滝)
Based on the name, a place near a waterfall. Ren mentions in his note that Mount Kagiroi is on the other side of Narutaki. (This line is omitted from the English translation.)
Tamai (玉井)
Based on the name, a place near a well. One of the villages mentioned by Dr. Asou in Dr. Asou's Records 1.
Ayukawa (鯉川)
Based on the name, a place near a river. One of the villages mentioned by Dr. Asou in Dr. Asou's Records 1. According to supplementary material included with the European Limited Edition version of the game, it is also where the Postmortem Photograph used by Hisoka and Yuri in the First Drop was taken.
Katase (片瀬)
Based on the name, a place near rapids. One of the villages mentioned by Dr. Asou in Dr. Asou's Records 1. According to Water-design Journal 4, Ose Kurosawa was originally from a small village near Katase. (This line is omitted from the English translation.)
Unnamed Locations
- The town where Hisoka and Yuri live, at the foot of the mountain.
- The cliff where Akari Narumi and Yuri both go to kill themselves. Barely visible in the distance, above the treetops, is a mountain which could be Mount Hikami.
