Rope Altar Kanji 縄殿 （なわ　どの） Game Fatal Frame Located at Underneath Himuro Mansion Function Sacrificial altar used in the Strangling Ritual Status Destroyed

The Rope Altar is the altar/device used to strangle/tear the Rope Shrine Maidens of the Himuro Mansion limb from limb. There are five points of the altar that correspond to each of the five gods housed in the five shrines that surround and protect the mansion. Each point is attached to a rack-like device. The ropes are tied around each device and attached to one of the maiden's limbs or neck. Each of the four priests and Ceremony Master turn the devices until the maiden has been dismembered and her blood has saturated the ropes. The ropes are then taken and used in the Ceremony of Ropes to bind the Hell Gate closed.

Rope Palace Kanji 縄殿 （なわ　どの） Game Fatal Frame III: The Tormented Located at Manor of Sleep Function Sacrificial altar used in the Strangling Ritual Status Sealed in a dream

The Rope Altar reappears in the Manor of Sleep as part of Miku's dream in Fatal Frame III, accessible via the Confinement Room. In this room Miku faces her terrifying memories of the Strangling Ritual and Rope Shrine Maiden, although in this game the maiden is Kizuna Himuro rather than Kirie.

The doors on the far side of the altar still lead to an area resembling the Baptism Path from Fatal Frame (only shown in a cutscene), and Miku senses Mafuyu's spirit vanishing through the doors, beckoning her deeper into the dream. If she chooses to follow him, it marks a point of no return, after which she will be unable to wake.
